In Kenya, 79% of children are unable to read and understand a simple age-appropriate text by age 10. At the same time, many parents are working hard to provide, and many older adults face poverty, isolation, and the loss of daily purpose.
Hands 4Life is launching its first Intergenerational Learning and Innovation Center in Kenya to strengthen three generations at once: children, parents, and grandparents.
The school has already started. We now only need $6,600 to put the finishing touches on the building.
This is not a traditional school. The center will serve the community from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Children will receive education in the morning. Afternoons will bring children and grandparents together for tutoring, mentoring, computer training, agriculture, and life skills. Evenings will provide entrepreneurship training for parents and caregivers. Saturdays will offer community classes for families, including parenting, health, agriculture, financial literacy, and outreach programs.
Hands 4Life already has the land, community partnerships, and 30 refurbished computers ready for students. Completing the classrooms allows us to open the doors and begin serving the community.
